Symptoms of Diabetes
The symptoms of diabetes are sometimes not easy to detect, even for the person suffering from it. Therefore is it even more vital to look out for any slight indications of symptoms of diabetes.
All people with diabetes have one thing in common: they accumulated too much sugar, or glucose, in their blood. These people share many similar symptoms of diabetes, including:
- Extreme thirst
- A frequent desire to urinate
- Blurred vision
- A feeling of being tired most of the time for no apparent reason
People suffering from type 2 diabetes may also experience leg pain that may result from nerve damage or poor circulation. Many people with type 1 diabetes and some people with type 2 diabetes also find that they lose weight even though they are hungrier than usual and are eating more.
People who carry extra body fat have a tendency to develop type 2 diabetes. It is interesting in that extra fat above the hips (central body obesity) results in a high chance of suffering from type 2 diabetes than extra fat in the hips and thighs. Obviously, leading an inactive “couch potato” lifestyle can also lead to diabetes.
A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight. Three-fourths of all people with type 2 diabetes are or have been obese – that is, they have a body mass index of 30 or above.
Because of the nature of type 2 diabetes, it is possible to have mild symptoms (what you feel) or signs (what the doctor can detect) of type 2 diabetes for years before diabetes is detected. In contrast, few cases of type 1 diabetes go undetected for long. The symptoms of type 1 diabetes are quite serious, leading the people suffering from it to seek medical attention.
